Youth Care Projects RECEIVES GOVERNOR MIMIKO’s ENDORSEMENT - SIGNS MOU WITH LG |

The Executive Governor of Ondo State; Dr. Olusegun Mimiko officially endorsed Adolescent Information and
Development initiative of Youth Care Projects in Ondo State. The endorsement which is a glaring testimony to
the people-driven policies of the Mimiko administration in Ondo state also underscore the commitment of the
government to empower the young generation and strategically position them for equal opportunities and
competiveness in the emerging global socio-economic order.
Youth Care Projects is collaborating with Ondo East Local Government to provide sexuality and reproductive
information and services to the adolescent and youth in Ondo East Local Government Area of Ondo State. A Skill
Acquisition Centre has already been established for youth in the Local government under the project which would
be implemented under a three year partnership agreement with the Local Government.
Youth Care Projects and Ondo East Local Government formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the
implementation of the project on the 8th of November, 2010. At the occasion for the signing of the MOU, the
project was officially introduced to officials and stakeholders in the Local Government Area. The Executive
Director of Youth Care Projects, Mrs. ‘Nike Okunrinmeta, told the gathering that the cardinal objective of
Youth Care Project is to address the numerous health and socio-economic challenges that hinder development and
self-actualization of young people. She affirmed the commitment of Youth Care Projects to positively impact on
the lives of adolescents and youth in the local government by engaging them through trainings, information
sharing and counseling.
The Executive Director, Youth Care Projects places deliberate emphasis on research, documentation and advocacy
in deepening youth awareness and responsiveness to health issues as well as career moulding at the grassroots.
Mrs. Okunrinmeta, stated that young people from rural communities in Nigeria form a significant part of the
population are lacking in requisite information and services that could contribute to improving awareness on
reproductive as well as other health concerns. According to her, the quest to fill the gap in providing
adolescent sexual and reproductive health information and services for young people in the rural communities in
Ondo State in furtherance of the rapid developmental initiatives of the administration of Governor Mimiko led
to the establishment of Youth Centre by Youth Care Projects in partnership with Ondo East Local Government.
Mrs. Okunrinmeta commended the Executive Chairman of Ondo East Local Government, Mr. Oluwasijibomi Akindiose
for his concern about the health and general development of young people in the Local Government Area and for
demonstrating the political will to commit resources to programmes that educate and sensitize young people for
healthy and responsible adulthood. She pledged the commitment of the Youth Care Projects in ensuring that the
projects deliver on its set goals and objectives.
